Negotiating for that ACORN “sit down in our office” interview

Posted: 06:35 PM ET

If you’ve been following our attempts to find out why so many ACORN voter registration forms are being turned in with apparently fraudulent information, you may have also seen my interview with ACORN’s chief organizer Bertha Lewis.

During our live interview I asked Ms. Lewis what ACORN was or is doing to prevent further voter registration fraud. She invited me to go to New York and see for myself.

Here is how the conversation went:

DREW: “Is there anything else you can do, in terms of greater openness to put these issues to rest? Can you open the books? Can we work this out?

Bertha Lewis/Acorn chief Organizer: “Sure, we want Drew or anyone, Drew come sit down in our office.”

Of course, immediately after the interview, my producer Kathleen Johnston, called to ask when we could come and sit down in Ms. Lewis’ office, in fact we asked if we could come tomorrow. That was 11 tomorrow’s ago. We are still in negotiations with ACORN as to what exactly Ms. Lewis meant by her “come sit down in our office” invitation. ACORN has hired a crisis management team and a public relations firm to help them handle the press. And so far, at least handling us, has meant to keep their office door closed.

I’ll keep you posted….negotiations continue.

Stop Obama's Voter Fraud   November 2nd, 2008 10:02 am ET

Good for Drew and his perserveance. For most of the MSM, voter fraud is only a concern when Dems trump up (unsubstantiated) charges against Reps. Why no outcry when demonstrated massive scale fraud is clearly taking place?? Double standard anyone??

TEE,

What the hell are you babbling about?
What does your rant have to do with the posted article?

LJ   November 2nd, 2008 3:30 pm ET

IT 'S PATHETIC HOW ACORN HAS BEEN GETTING AWAY THESE TACTICS FOR SO LONG, WITHOUT BEING PROSECUTED. WHY AREN'T THEY JAIL? WHY ISN'T THEIR 40% FEDERAL FUNDING
CANCELED?
ARE ALL IN OUR COUNTRY AFRAID OF WHAT THE REPURCUSIONS WOULD BE IF THEY SPOKE UP. THESE ORGANIZATIONS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP MINORITIES, HAVE ABUSED THEY POWER. IT WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THEY ARE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE.

THEY ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you plan to televise the videotape (shown on Jon Stewart Oct. 14 and available on YouTube) of John McCain keynoting a FL ACORN meeting and praising the organization for its good work?

Keep waiting Drew. They wont talk to you. Amazing how this pretty damning story has only one comment on the CNN site. I am conservative, and I do like to see how the other half lives. Seems the liberal comments are reserved for only those stories that agree 100% with the mindset of a typical obama supporter.

Keep trying!

I believe it is irresponsible to portray this as something that is going to have an effect on this election. The fraud was committed against Acorn. Temporary employees hired by Acorn lied and made up names of voters to make it seem as if they were out there registering more people to vote than they actually are. There is no evidence that those falsely registered people actually vote. Acorn flags those suspicious registrations for the board of elections. Furthermore, they can not by law remove the suspicious registrations. This is lazy sensationalistic reporting and the Acorn voter fraud myth has already been debunked by this network and other real reporters. I expect this type of reporting from that other news network, CNN you are better than this.

I just want to say that I watched your news channel for years. Over the last six months it has been hard to continue watching because you support Obama over McCain. I know you probably think your doing a good job it just isn't happening. I bet you pick Obama as the winner before all the other news networks on Tuesday. Please try to do a better job for the next couple days.

Acorn: This organization should be under a Justice Department organization nationwide, not just in some states. Every vote should be counted and one fraudulent vote, means someones vote was lost by a criminal action. If the folks at Acorn have taken tax payers money to support one political candidate, then I want my money back.

I will never give another penny to the Catholic Church if that is what they are doing with the money. Mean while many catholic schools had to close due to lack of funding, and they are giving thier money to ACORN? OMG

Drew, don`t forget that John McBush embraced Acorn at an event praising the organization, and it`s voter registration skills .
When the republicrooks are ahead in the polls , we never are concerned with Acorn . As the republicrooks polls fall , so the cries of the cheaters heighten ....... Theres a fella` with the last name of Griffin working on the Palin campaign , fielding questions regarding the expensive spending spree the " Wasilla Hillbillies " took , on the RNC dime .....
Of course I don`t expect you to reveal whether or not you have a relative , and a motive , ..... But ?.......
